The ALSs work in different ways. This enables effective listening in places of entertainment, work, and learning and at home; its basically an enhancer that harnesses sound vibrations making the clear to the ears.

There are three categories of ALSs. The first category is the FM system which uses radio broadcast technology. The FM systems are often installed in places of learning where they make listening very easy. They are mobile because their portable transmitters can be worn on the body. There are modern systems which utilize miniaturized receivers that fit onto the hearing aid via a boot.

Infrared systems are listening devices which utilize light based technology. They guarantee some kind of privacy because light is not able to pass through walls. They are the correct choice for situations like court proceedings which need confidentiality. They are often installed in places of entertainment. Also, they are designed and marketed for use in television listening.

An inductive loop system is the third group. The loop is established over a wide area and it uses an electromagnetic field to transmit sound. It is most applicable to users who cannot wear the receivers on their bodies. To add, they can also be utilized by non-hearing aid users by using headphone and an inductive loop receiver which are also as effective.

The common ALS system has three components. They include; a system of microphones, a transmission medium and a device for receiving signal and directing sound to the receiver. It is important to have a wide knowledge of the individual components because it will assist you in improving the effectiveness of the system as well as solving problems.

There are simple setups which can be done without involving professional sound contractors. However, for more complex installations, it is paramount that you involve experienced personnel. This is often true in meetings where several microphones have to be connected. In this case, you will need an automatic microphone mixer to control the individual microphones.
